The University of the Third Age
The Three Brethren U3A
(Scottish Charity Register No. SCO39266)
U3A is a learning cooperative of older people which enables members to share many educational, creative and leisure activities.
The Third Age refers to the period of time after the First Age of childhood dependence and the Second Age of full-time employment and parental responsibility.
Anyone in the Third Age can join U3A, whether you are in retirement, part-retirement, or about to retire - all you need is interest and enthusiasm! It is called a university, but in fact refers to the university of life and has members not students. By joining your local U3A you will become a member of one of the fastest growing organisations in the UK - 716 groups with over 209,000 members.
The Three Brethren U3A is based in Galashiels, but draws its membership from Clovenfords, Selkirk, Melrose, St. Boswells, Jedburgh and its environs. The Tweeddale U3A (Peebles based), The Four Abbeys (Kelso), and Eyemouth U3A are also to be found in the Borders.
The Three Brethren U3A has been in existence since March 2007 and from modest beginnings the group has grown steadily to a current membership of 102 with a choice of 19 flourishing activities and interests.
